My first food photo: The power of paua

The first digital photo that I ever took of food was the above shot of a commercial paua fritter in Rotarua. I went digital for my trip to NZ and in some small way, this fritter contributed to me beginning writing about food for myself. It was goddamn awful eating and in no way a reflection on paua as an ingredient; comparing this grey-green paste that had come straight from the bain-marie to real paua would be like comparing seafood extender to live crab.
